Is This Oregon’s Best Northern Thai Food?

July 12, 2024 ~ It’s hard to believe that it’s been over 10 years since we were in Thailand. I still remember walking home on hot, humid evenings after a long day of exploring. We'd take the boat across the river back to our Bangkok apartment and couldn’t resist stopping to see the little pad thai vendor near the entrance to our building. I’d smile and point at his container of dried shrimp, then cross my pointer fingers in an "X", hoping the universal sign would convey the right message. "No dried shrimp, please!"

One thing that hasn’t changed in the last 10 years is my love for Thai food. While there’s no shortage of Thai restaurants in the states, finding one that gets the authentic flavors right can sometimes be a challange.

Wild Rose - Bend, OR

This brings me to one of my favorite Thai spots in Oregon - Wild Rose Northern Thai Eats. Ever since the pandemic brought an end to the Pok Pok empire, Wild Rose has become my favorite spot for amazing Northern Thai dishes.

On Tuesday, after a week of being cooped up in the RV park in Sun River, I decided it was time to treat myself to a solo lunch date a Wild Rose.

The Food

Wild Rose's extensive menu is fun to read, with each dish description more enticing than the last. It can also cause a bit of menu anxiety when the extremely attentive staff come to take your order too quickly.

My Order

Thai Tea - Perfectly cold, smooth, and creamy and not overly sweet.

Tom Kha - fragrant with lemongrass, and tangy coconut broth. Perfect flavor.

Nam Prik Ong - spicy, savory and so-so good!

Total Bill $27.00 (lunch special)

If you're in Bend, I’d say this gem of a restaurant is a must-visit!
